In recent years television, film and news reporting have improved representation of lesbian and gay people. However, there continues to be resistance from commercial sponsors when primetime scripts call for displays of sexual affection between members of the same sex. And when lesbian and gay characters do appear on television programming and in film, there is still very little diversity in the image that is presented.
